Worms

by bobthewizard on August 27, 2010

So, I’m a little disappointed with my garden now, to say the least…

Before we went on vacation, I was pretty happy with the way the tomato plants were looking. But now, they have been devastated by worms, chewing their way through the plants and eating most of the leaves. My son and I have been going hunting often to find them and remove them but usually not until they have devoured another branch…

Here’s what they look like. This is a little one just getting started, and then the next picture is what they look like when they’ve been busy munching away at the plants… This is what the plants look like now.

I don’t want to use pesticides on the garden, but for the next season, I’m going to have to come up with some plan to keep them off of my plants.

Any suggestions?

Dust the plants with lime.. regular gardening lime. Worms hate this stuff..

Get some bird feeders up too.. attract birds and the birds will help you out a lot.

I think we got about 20 tomatoes… most of them small almost cherry tomato sized. Nathan and I loved them, but nobody else would try them. That\’s ok.. more for us.. hheheh.

Next year, companion plants, lime and birds… hopefully we\’ll have better luck.
